After they reached Colchis, where the fleece hung from a tree, they realized that only one man could pull it down; Chiron volunteered. He then went back to Greece, bringing the golden fleece with him.
As the legend goes, Chiron taught Achilles how to fight, and he also taught Jason how to deal with pain. When Hercules was fighting Antaeus, Chiron came out to help him. When Hercules was dying, Chiron gave him a potion to drink, which made him invulnerable. He also instructed Hercules to take care of the poisoned arrows that were being shot at him by Apollo.
When the god Heracles was trying to rescue Prometheus from the Titan Cronus, Chiron helped him with his tasks and eventually persuaded the other Titans to let him go free. Chiron would continue to protect Heracles until the end of time.
Chiron is the patron of medicine and pharmacology. He is also said to have invented the lyre, the flute and the trumpet, and he is often shown playing them.
So what does all this mean?
Chiron is a planet of transformation, change and healing. It’s not surprising then that Chiron has been associated with the medical profession since ancient times.
But he can also be associated with the medical profession because of the position that he occupies within our solar system. He is located near Saturn, and Saturn represents limits and limitations. Chiron is therefore a reminder that we must learn to live within our own boundaries, and that we should avoid taking things too far.
Chiron in Scorpio: The Wound Of Control
